The public sector of the future should . . .
Display non-politicised open data, and allow the development of commercial apps using that data. Small clever uses of data. All non-sensitive data should be released to public domain for use freely, as real-time data that can be turned into apps.
Anything else?
Rather than the often common practice of importing massive IT projects with laundry-list needs (everybody pegs a requirement on) delivered by massive consulting firms. That then fail. That then cost a billion.

Twitter.alt - Status Net more reliable for government 2.0 and open gov?

There is a viable vertical alternative to twitter for micro-blogging.

Status Net
. An open source innovation used by Creative Commons and Mozilla. No vendor lock in either.

As a vertical application (i.e. hosted on government domains) it solves all those issues regarding the 'government voice', I had spoke about previously on the innovation group here on Ozloop.

I come from a commercial background and your frustration is something I have had to handle before. Happy to discuss how you and I might move forward with a project. Would appreciate seeing anything (report etc) you have to wet my appetite on the subject. Is there anything I can look at on your web site.

Chris - your Innovate comment
I understand where you are coming from. I would like to discuss the issues you raise in a private forum, as I feel we have a lot in common and I may have some suggestions. Not all appropriate for an open forum (but all above board).
I now find I am restricted to 200 words here. I invited you as a friend on Innovate, just so I could send you an email.

Hope you find time to respond positively to this.
